Here we are again with another featured illustrator, this time we introduce you to the wonderful work of Jonathan Kania from 12TH DIMENSION ART & DESIGN.

Jon currently resides in Cornwall, Truro in the UK. He has been on Etsy for about 6 months so we have a newbie here! New to etsy but certainly not to art. Jon was only little when he first starting drawing witches and illustrating their clothing.

Jon continued his art through school and had the wonderful opportunity to study at art college and university. Studying fashion, textiles and costume design.

“In 2008 I picked up my paintbrushes and I have never looked back”

Jon painted visionary works but has branched out into illustration.
Jon’s genre is visionary, whimsical and fantasy in nature, very new age and completely inspiring. The one thing that really pops out is Jon’s use of colour, so vibrant and full of life.

“I am inspired by unusual things. I like bright happy colours and dark themes. I am greatly inspired by fantasy art of all types.”

12th Dimension art & design is in my list of personal favorite Etsy stores as his work is really amazing and certainly gives you that ‘boost’ you need to start the day with some positive energy!

“I would like my fine art to make people feel happy and energised. I would like my illustrations to inspire others and fit into all types of publishing.”

on is currently working on whimsical art and illustrating poetry, in a years time Jon hopes to be a successful full-time artist putting his stamp on the art world. Way to go Jon, I wish you much success, it’s about time the world looked at fantasy artists and illustrators more seriously.

What’s the advice that Jon has for other aspiring artists?

“My advice to other artists would be never give up. If you are struggling - take a break. Get out & see the world around you. never limit yourself and always dream. life is too short to put limits on the work your heart wants to produce and finally be yourself and enjoy living alongside your creations.”

Back on track with another Illustr8ed Artist feature - Brittany Martin!

Brittany is the talent behind Etsy Store: InnovativeMom. She is from Flat Rock, Michigan (between Detroit and Monroe).

Brittany signed up on Etsy in 2009 but did not start her Etsy selling journey until late last year (2011).

Brittany has always been involved in some form of art, she expanded greatly in high school doing art competitions and was accepted into advanced art courses.

Brittany creates Illustrations for Children ” I love drawing when the subject is fun and uplifting and makes you smile, and I feel my Little Green Guy does just that!”

I certainly agree with that, the cute little green guy is Brittany’s main character that can be seen all through her store ( I am a mother of 5 - 4 of which are boys and this is something they would just love!)

Like a lot of us, Brittany finds her ideas and inspiration from real life - that of her children, she translates each amusing event from her children to that of her characters, something that I personally love, it helps us all relate to the art in a personal way.

Brittany is currently working very hard to get more products and art completed:

“I currently am stocking some more Little Goth Guy plush dolls, the first two sold within 10 minutes of being listed, then onto a custom birthday Plush, and then onto a custom bathroom print order and more Mason Jar Monsters *whew I better get started*

With such a cute and loveable character - it’s not hard to see why Brittany’s art is so popular.

So in the next year - what’s in store for InnovativeMom? Expanding her product line, Brittany is always trying to put out new products so in a years time she hopes to have more to offer.

When asked if she had advice for other artists she replied with:

“Believe in yourself. You don’t need the approval of others. If you do something and find yourself truly happy then that is where you need to be!”

Sound advice I think - Many new artists are spending too much time trying to mimic other artists in the hopes for the same exposure - be who you are!

Cindy Dauer is our featured artist this week, she hails from Evanston, IL and is the amazing talent behind: The Slumbering Herd.

Cindy had an Etsy store with her handpainted T-Shirts but then took a break and now she is back larger than life with her bright and wonderfully wacky illustrations - Doing this now for close to 1 year.

Cindy started drawing silly horses and dogs as a wee lass, she did however quit art for many years - a decision she has dubbed as foolish. Lucky for us she recently decided that it was where her passion lay and so she picked up a new set of pens and here we are!

Cindy describes her art as Silly Fantasy illustration, because silly beasts make people happy, I really think she is right - Cindy’s art has certainly put a smile on my face!

This is what she hopes her art can do for others, to have a certain effect on them -“To remind people that they can put down their hand-held electronic devices for a few minutes now and again and appreciate small silly things, including my art :D”

Which I think is fantastic - there is nothing worse than walking around town spotting groups of friends out for lunch - clicking away at their handheld electronics in silence and not speaking to one another, I think Cindy had a very important point there.

Cindy gets her inspiration from her crazy mixed-up brain and possibly all of the crazy animals she’s known!

At the moment Cindy is busy creating lots more of her fantastic art and also participating in Illustration Friday. (A weekly event I have always been meaning to participate in and highly recommended by Cindy)

So where does Cindy hope to see herself in a years time? A book put together of a variety of beasts and their silly tales. Sounds like a really fantastic idea … you heard it here folks so keep an eye out ;)

So what about all of those aspiring artists hoping to get into creating and selling their art, any advice? “As with writing or any other creative pursuit, just keep doing it. Do at least one project per week, hopefully more. The reason other artists are better than us is not because they have some special talent we lack. It is because they put in the work of doing LOTS of art. Seriously, just do it. Be inspired by artists you admire.”

Adam Graham is our first featured Illustrator, he is new to the Etsy team but has been on Etsy for just over a year and a half. Adam’s illustration shop is Snow Wulf Art.

Adam hails from Canada - his art is dark/surreal fantasy. Some of his art borders on Sci-Fi also. A genre he enjoys for it’s rawness and imaginative nature.

When asked how he started his passion for art he said that his father taught him to draw at a very young age.

Adam draws on his dreams and visions to feed his ideas - to have his art spark others curiosity and imagination.

Adam is an artist that is very creative - when asked what he was currently working on he stated: “many, many things”. So keep an eye out for some new art from Adam in the near future.

What will Adam be doing in a years time? Well apart from creating more of the art that he enjoys to do, Adam hopes to be working on his own illustrated book! Sounds like a great plan to me and I certainly look forward to the final result.

So what advice does Adam have for other artists he wish had been told to him? Art is a very rewarding hobby, but turning it into a job requires a lot of work and determination.
